Firstly, Ross Noble's randomist stand up. Made me laugh until I cried; I haven't done that in a while. There, nuff said.

Next, Merlin. As much as I love it, and am glad that the actors are still great, why are we suddenly back to episode 2 of last series, where Arthur is being a prat, and not listening to Merlin? I thought we'd got past that bit boys? Though I'm glad that we're starting to get crazyhaired!Morgana at night (I like her as nice!Morgana, but realise that she has to go to crazy!Morgana eventually, so at the minute she can be were!Morgana). Also glad that we finally have seen Gwen get a backbone (though she loses it everytime a bloke talks to her). Well done Gwen for getting past the staring at men phase, and saving them instead. Ok, you did save him by jumping on him, but that's an improvement at least, and it got his attention. (Also, if the person kissing Merlin in the trailer bit afterwards is Gwen, I shall stab people. That girl's got enough going on in her head without that. Also, what's going on with Lancelot's hair? Where did it go? *sob*).
Finally, District 9. Essentially, this film is Alien Apartheid with people blowing up. From about five minutes in the film I had decided I no longer cared what happened to anyone, because they were all being evil idiots (humans and aliens alike, though perhaps the aliens had some slight reasoning). Even the "tragic" hero lost all sympathy from me, because he truly didn't understand why his previous actions were wrong. The point of no return for me involved fire, unhatched alien eggs and a reference by our hero to popcorn, which I now may never eat again.

This film could have been good, an interesting thought-provoking take on racial views today. Instead, some guy on the writing team wanted gore, exploding men, and racial stereotypes. I'm presuming the choice to set the film in South Africa wasn't a coincidence? Then why use stereotypical black gangsters in the film? Surely that's going against the entire premise of the film? Oh the irony.

Am currently rewatching episodes of Brittas Empire. It has the genius of Chris Barrie, who is a legend everybody, and bits of it are quite quite mad. My dad loved it when I was little, and I can remember watching bits of it when I was little, around my grandparents :D

Dentist today. I hate going cos I know what he'll say everytime. I still end up panicking about it anyway, and my teeth always feel twinges of pain even though there is nothing wrong with them. I reckon its all subconcious.

Holiday in Brittany starts tomorrow. Well, technically we leave late tomorrow evening, and get in Brittany early Saturday morning. Am already pretty much packed, just a few bits to finish off tonight. Am really looking forward to it, should be good fun.

Ugh. I feel low. Really low. It's not just the fact that United lost in the Champions League final. Or the fact that my phone decided to crash, and I spent 15 minutes trying to prize open the back before remembering the tiny button I needed to press. Or even the fact that no one in this house can keep quiet so that i can revise for my exam tomorrow. It's not that I have an exam tomorrow morning that I seriously doubt I'm prepared for (even though everyone seems to think that because its me, I'll pass), or a TKD meal that I've organised tomorrow evening. Or that my best mate in this house has left to play pool, and I really feel left out because I want to do well.

To be honest with you, its probably PMT.

Well, I'm a big sci fi fan, but the first series of Red Dwarf I ever watched was series V, which my partner forced me to watch from start to finish, and I still love him for it now. My absolute favourite episode was Quarantine (Chris Barrie in a gingam dress and army boots is beyond hilarious), so I took the name flibbles from the killer penguin glove puppet in that episode (because sharing my name with a killer penguin glove puppet is awesome). The 1989 comes from the year I was born.

I have given up one indulgence. This year, I'm giving up chocolate (cliche I know, but I couldn't think of anything else). I'm not doing because I'm religious though, I'm doing it for me, ans to try and raise a bit of money for comic relief.
Technically I started yesterday, because so many people were giving me different days for when lent started, so no one can say I haven't done it for long enough. First day was ok, but I wound up being miserable after taekwondo, and couldn't eat any choc to make me happier! A big thank you to my tkd friends, who saw something was up!
xxx

I have bought him Cider (cos I'm trying to claim that I've bought him his first legal drink, even if I know it technically doesn't count, just like the Frijj milkshake that I bought Joe when he turned 18), and Merlin part 2 on DVD (he asked for it, it's on pre order, and yes, I have ordered my own copy). I've also got him a ferris wheel photo frame, which I'm going to fill with loads of nice pictures of the family. I'm thinking he can take it with him to University, and if he ever gets bored he can twirl it round really really fast. Very amusing.

It's a very weird feeling that my brother can offically be adultish. It's all rather exciting. I tend to miss the really good BBC saturday dramas when they are first aired, because I'm working, so the amount of times my family have managed to spoil Doctor Who, Robin Hood, and Merlin for me is pretty high. Yeah, I've probably done it to other people (alot) but I do try not too. When your dad answers the door with "Guy has just killed Marian" you can't help but go "Thanks, but could you have given me a chance not to listen to this?"

Best Writer's block ever!
Ahem
Well, firstly, well done Matt Smith. He used to attend my university, and therefore I'm willing to give him a chance (I mean I gave David Tennant a chance and he's now a legend). But the likes of Rupert Penry Jones, Richard Armitage, and (according to my dad) Jimmy Carr have missed out. I'd really like to see the list of actors they interviewed because it would be interesting reading, but it is never going to be released, ho hum.

If you wanted a nice young doctor then they've made a good choice, although I can think of many nice young actors who would also do the job well (many BBC dramas have young male leads at the moment, and one of them would have been a safe, if slightly well known bet), but by picking an unknown they've not really give us any clue as to what this new series will be like. We'd better wait until we've seen the outfit, and the assistant (oh please don't let it be racheal stevens, I couldn't bear it. If you are listening, Oh god of BBC and good dramas, don't let her go on Merlin either. I'd never forgive you).
Freddie Mercury. Although I was not old enough to understand it when it happened, to find out that this born entertainer was taken from us too soon because of a terrible illness was shocking. If you listen to The Show Must Go On, which apparently was sung by Freddie while he was unable to stand up because he was too weak from the illness, it makes the hair on the back on your neck stand up. He wasn't going to let this illness stop him from entertaining and making people happy until it took him completely. It's one of the best vocal performances you can ever hear. Of course there are others, and the list in the question mentions are fair few that I would have thought of.

But if anyone is in that remembering mood, and wants to hear a truly fantastic song sung from the heart, then look no further than this song, sung by the surviving members of Queen. The fact that they truly cared for their lead singer is blalently apparent.

I don't know whether its the wording of the question, but everybody seems to be choosing dates that correspond to terrible things happening. Obviously September 11th will stick in everybody's minds; the image of he events unfolding is one that is difficult to forget, and should never be forgotten. But I do wonder why people remember terrible events more clearly. It's quite downheartening to think that we only seem to unite as a world during times of grief and suffering and terror. I know I am guilty of it too, my immediate answers to this question would include things such as Diana's death, the Tsunami, and the terror attacks on London. In my short lifetime, it does seem like we are focussing on the negative, and not the positive. Obviously those terrible world events are important to remember, but that shouldn't mean that we focus on them so much that we forget that there are good, positive things we have done as a globe.

Of course, it is rather annoying that the wording of this question has made my mind go blank as to any of them.
